Maurice Pope

Born and raised in Franklin, TN, Maurice Pope has done a little of everything. He’s been a long haul trucker, raised Great Pyrenees dogs, and owned a restaurant in Franklin. Now he is the owner of Mo Better BBQ, Fish & Things. Let’s see what Mo (as he’s known to friends) is talking about today.

MM: How long has Mo Better BBQ, Fish & Things been around?

Mo: We opened in April of 2006, almost 4 years ago.

MM: What type of food do you offer?

Mo: Well we have fried fish (whiting and catfish), pork chops (grilled or fried), chicken (BBQ or fried), bologna (grilled or fried), BBQ pulled pork, BBQ ribs, smoked ham, smoked wings, polish dogs, hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, pinto beans, spaghetti, and ………

MM: Okay, I think we have the idea.

Mo: Well, you asked!!

MM: What makes your business unique?

Mo: All of our products are made from scratch (the meal for the fish, the desserts). We also smoke out meats over cherry wood (not hickory) for 12-24 hrs. We like to take our time. We also like to get to know each customer that comes by. We don’t just sell you a plate and take your money, we honestly want to know how you are and how you like the food and service.

MM: Where are you located?

Mo: In front of the Tractor Supply Store in Thompson Station (4709 Traders Way, Thompson Station, TN 37179)

MM: How can you be reached?

MM: What are your hours of operation?

Mo: In the winter months we are open Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00AM – 7:00PM. In the Spring, Summer, and Fall we stay open a bit more. We are open on Thursdays for lunch from 11:00AM-2:00PM and in the evenings from 5:00PM – 7:00PM. On Fridays we’ll have live music and stay open from 11:00AM until we get sleepy ! On Saturdays we are open from 11:00AM – 9:00PM.
